Greetings, and welcome to Pamlico & Albemarle Publishing!
I'm Penelope Carroll, president and editor-in-chief of this small, independent publishing house based in
Nags Head, North Carolina. I opened up shop in 2012 for the express purpose of publishing Thatcher:
the unauthorized biography of Blackbeard the pirate, a trilogy of historic fiction I co-authored with
my husband Dave. Because the story itself is primarily Dave's baby, I don't think I'm bragging when
I say it's a great read ... you can get your copy here ...
In 2014, my uncle, Phil McMullan, was giving lectures and teaching a class at our regional community college
based on his masters thesis, and he asked me to publish it, in part to serve as his textbook. Beechland and the
Lost Colony, a volume full of valuable research and references, has been well received here in the land of
Virginia Dare and gives an interesting perspective on what happened to America's first English colonists.
This year, Uncle Phil and I took on putting together a history of North Carolina's Blacklands Treasure, at the
behest of Cy Rich, Jr., who was a significant figure in the development of these fertile farmlands on the
Albemarle-Pamlico peninsula. From a mountain of scattered research materials and interviews, we present
a captivating story of how this seemingly impenetrable wilderness became home to some of the most
productive farmland in the United States.
So read and enjoy stories from our little corner of the world, beautiful Northeastern North Carolina!
